BMC's Rebranded Black Box

BMC Software plans to release its Application Problem Resolution System 7.0 for monitoring application code.

BMC Software Inc.'s Black Box solution for monitoring and troubleshooting application code defects and other issues now offers unified support for both .NET and Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) environments.

The company last month said it's set to release its Application Problem Resolution System (APRS) version 7.0 software, based on the AppSight product acquired with BMC's purchase of Identify Software in 2006.

"You'll be able to play back the recorded information and follow the execution between the Windows client and Java-based server back and forth," explains BMC Director Ran Gishri.

Gishri says APRS 7.0 adds support for Microsoft's Windows Vista, Internet Explorer 7 and .NET Framework 3.0, as well as integration with Visual Studio Team System (VSTS). Efforts have also focused on improving data capture and broadening reach, Gishri says.

"We've done some major enhancements to our Black Box to be able to record more information at lower overhead," he says. "We added support for Apache Tomcat, which I think is going to be released next month."

The APRS 7.0 release consists of several modules, which BMC continues to release. Gishri says VSTS 2008 integration is due in the next month, with integration support for Rational ClearQuest and HP Quality Center expected soon after.
