Microsoft Focuses on .NET Aspire, 'Modern SQL' with AI at Dev Conference
Microsoft yesterday announced its dev execs will focus on cloud-native development with .NET Aspire -- along with modern SQL with a touch of AI in Microsoft Fabric -- at a developer conference next month at the company's Redmond headquarters.
"Visual Studio LIVE! 2024 is not just another conference; it's a celebration of innovation, learning, and community," said Microsoft's Jim Harrer in a post on the company's Developer Blogs site on July 15.
With the Aug. 5-9 Visual Studio Live! @ Microsoft HQ conference being held in Redmond, the company is tasking high-level execs to deliver two keynotes. Scott Hunter will present "Introducing .NET Aspire -- Cloud Native Development for .NET," while the other keynote will be helmed by Asad Khan and Bob Ward, titled "Building Applications with the Modern SQL Using AI and Microsoft Fabric."
As we recently reported, Microsoft is publicizing .NET Aspire (see "Microsoft Making Big .NET Aspire Push, So What Is It?"). The answer to that headline's question is that .NET Aspire is an opinionated, cloud-ready stack for building observable, production ready, distributed, cloud-native applications with .NET.

"This keynote will show how to transform an existing application, demonstrate the new telemetry dashboard, create local resources and resources in the cloud, and run and deploy multi-part apps from the command line, VS Code, and Visual Studio," Harrer said. "Don't miss this opportunity to learn about our most exciting release in years!"
As far as the company's take on a "modern SQL," Harrer said: "This session will cover the latest advancements in SQL products and services, showcasing how AI and Microsoft Fabric can enhance your applications and improve efficiency. Gain valuable insights from industry leaders on how to leverage these cutting-edge technologies to build powerful, modern applications."
Microsoft Fabric is an end-to-end analytics/data platform that encompasses data movement, processing, ingestion, transformation, real-time event routing and report building.

Khan and Ward recently provided a preview to their session in a short Q&A. "We will show practical examples of how to build Generative AI applications with your data securely and at scale," they said of their keynote. "You will also learn how to use Microsoft Copilot experiences to help you build your application, manage your database, and develop SQL queries. You will also learn how to take advantage of the integration of SQL with Microsoft Fabric opening new possibilities for your data in a unified platform for analytics and AI."
Microsoft's Harrer also described other benefits of attending the conference, including networking opportunities, hands-on labs, more than 70 sessions and the chance to learn from industry experts including Microsoft's Mads Kristensen, James Montemagno, Daniel Roth and many more among the total of 31 speakers.
