HP Ships Performance Center 9.5
Hewlett-Packard today announced the release of HP Performance Center 9.5, the company's integrated application test and analysis suite. The product enables dev shops to analyze performance and discover code flaws across the lifecycle of the application.
The new version of Performance Center adds support for granular trend analysis across iterations, a protocol detection feature for automating test operations, and the ability to test Web 2.0 applications based on Adobe's Action Message Format (AMF).
The new features address a changing software development landscape, said Mark Sarbiewski, senior director of products for HP Software and Solutions .
"There's a whole raft of new technologies that have come into play," Sarbiewski said, noting the ascendance of rich Internet application (RIA) and service-oriented architecture (SOA) development. "There's a massive shift to agile from older models, like waterfall. It's created some really interesting new challenges and opportunities, let me put it that way."
Subbu Iyer, also a senior director of products for HP Software and Solutions, said that agile development has placed a premium on "incremental, iterative" testing that allows developers to apply findings from the previous build or sprint. The trending features in HP Performance Center target this area.
"You can now quickly say yesterday's build is really better than today and how does this compare," Iyer said. "You can get not only a competitive picture between builds in an agile environment, you can get comparative pictures between versions of applications."
In addition to the updated suite, HP provides Performance Center 9.5 functionality via a hosted, software as a service (SaaS) offering. HP also offers consulting services and support for the Performance Center suite.
HP Performance Center 9.5 is shipping today. More information is available at the HP Performance Center Web site.
