Microsoft Is Not Killing Off TFS for Git

The company officially responds to a social media storm of worry.

Contrary to rumors, Microsoft is not dumping Team Foundation Server (TFS) version control, and moving solely to Git source control.

Microsoft Technical Fellow Brian Harry said on his blog that the myth had spread quickly enough that he felt the need to officially respond. Apparently, someone Tweeted out the following: "Microsoft phasing out the TFS version control repository and moving to Git. Unofficially confirmed at a TFS presentation". It spread and "created a minor retweet storm," he continued.

No such thing is happening, Harry blogged. "It's simply not accurate." His understanding, he said, is that it was simply a misunderstanding in a hallway conversation. He emphasized that Microsoft is going to develop and support both repositories into the foreseeable future.

Said Harry: "At the moment, a significant majority of our customers use TFVC.  That may or may not change over time. But you can bet that we will continue to work to make both great." He did confirm that current development work has been on the Git side, but that's because it's further behind TFS as a product.

So if you use TFS for collaboration and lifecycle management, you can breathe easy: it's not going anywhere.

Compared to other machine learning regression techniques, naive Bayes regression is usually less accurate, but is simple, easy to implement and customize, works on both large and small datasets, is highly interpretable, and doesn't require tuning any hyperparameters.
