Splunk Simplifies System, Mobile App Health

Splunk announced updated Splunk Enterprise 6.2 and debuts cloud-based Splunk MINT at its user confab in Las Vegas.

Splunk, a company that provides tools for systems performance analysis and diagnostics, has released a number of new cloud-based IT tools that have connectors to developer tools and apps. Splunk Enterprise 6.2 is an upgrade, while Splunk MINT is a completely new offering that was built with the cloud in mind. The announcements coincide with the Splunk Users Worldwide Conference taking place in Las Vegas, Nevada this week.

Splunk Enteprise 6.2 has a more intuitive analysis to casual and less technical users, through enhanced automated discovery of valuable patterns in the machine data," said Splunk senior vice president Guido Schroeder in a press release. The update features a new wizard that can intuitively "onboard" machine data and prep it for further inspection. The data during extraction is identified and tagged using a new Advanced Field Extractor.

Version 6.2 also has improve searching and dashboard creation based on an improved pivot search feature. Splunk provides some prebulit dashboards for common searches that can also be reused and packaged into apps. All the information can be managed and configured through a new Distributed Management console.

Splunk Enterprise 6.2 will be available later this month from the Splunk Web site.

Splunk MINT is the result of Splunk's acquisition of Bugsense a year ago. Splunk MINT comes in Express and Enterprise versions. Express provides performance and transactional analytics of mobile apps. The Enterprise version goes a few steps further, and encompasses the mobile app information and gathers information a bit deeper into the enterprise and into back-end system to log and slice and dice and analyze. Both versions can be accessed via the cloud.

Splunk MINT Express can be accessed now; Splunk MINT Enterprise is currently in beta. More information is here.

Splunk announced .NET app connectability to its tools suites earlier this month.
