KaleidoSearch Embeds dtSearch Engine

dtSearch, a specialist in enterprise and developer text retrieval software and document filters, announced it's now powering an upgrade to KaleidoSearch from Contegra Systems.

While normally this wouldn't be of much importance to readers of Visual Studio Magazine, dtSearch is a perennial winner in our Reader's Choice Awards program, which as its name suggests ranks dozens of products as voted on by our readers. That was once again the case in the 2024 awards, which saw dtSearch take the silver medal in the Specialized Search Engines category.

The company today announced the deal with Contegra for KaleidoSearch, a customizable, easy-to-deploy faceted search solution designed to enhance search experiences on enterprise websites, e-commerce platforms, and content-rich applications. Contegra is a long-time provider of custom development services for the dtSearch Engine developer market, working with customers ranging from small businesses to Fortune 500 corporations as well as non-profits and government entities.

The update enhances performance and customization options, offering improved search speed, additional filter flexibility, and user interface refinements. Designed for integration into websites and enterprise applications, KaleidoSearch now includes advanced metadata filtering, seamless faceting across large document sets, and a more responsive front-end.

"The Contegra team has undertaken many high-level custom development projects for our dtSearch Engine customer base," said David Thede, president of dtSearch, in a news release. "We've seen even companies with substantial in-house development teams achieve major benefits from working with Contegra because of Contegra's specialized search design expertise."

Contegra's president, Rob Wiesenberg, also weighed in on the deal, explaining that a prominent litigation practice was the impetus behind the company's most recent release.

"The litigation practice needed to streamline their document review when a search request returned thousands of files. The new interface saves review time and reduces screen fatigue resulting in much greater efficiency," Wiesenberg said.

dtSearch noted the KaleidoSearch upgrade also seamlessly integrates Contegra's updated server-side solution for highlighting search result hits in PDF documents.

"Our PDF highlighter offers a simple and efficient way to highlight search result hits in PDF documents without the need for end-users to run specific PDF review software," Wiesenberg said. "The PDF highlighter can work with KaleidoSearch or independently with other dtSearch developer products."

While dtSearch has a strong development presence, it is also used widely in enterprise environments, legal discovery, government, publishing, and information management systems, with support for more than 25 file formats. It's most recent release is Version 2025.01.
