C# Developers Can Tap Into Azure AD Reporting Data

Developers can tap into Azure AD reporting data and create custom dashboards with the availability of a number of reporting APIs that Microsoft has released as previews last week.

Microsoft released into preview a number of Azure Active Directory Reporting APIs that will allow developers to bring that reporting data into custom dashboards, applications such as Power BI or Excel, and security information and event management (SIEM) solutions.

According to a blog post, from David Howell, a Partner Group Program Manager with the Microsoft Identity and Security Services Division, the REST-based APIs can be used with "C#, PowerShell, or any tool or programming language that supports REST APIs with OAuth." The extracted data can be published in text, XML or JSON formats.

Howell's post provided a list of the currently supported reports. The APIs can surface "all audited events." They can deliver data on SaaS app provisioning errors. Various user activity data can be extracted. The APIs can be used to track anonymous user sign-in attempts, suspicious user activities, sign-in attempts across different regions, multiple sign-in attempts and attempts to use malware-infected devices, among other details.

Tapping into some data via the APIs will require having an Azure Premium subscription license in place, Microsoft noted. To find out more, check out the blog post for the list of currently available APIs in preview.
