Beta: Apache Cordova Plugin for Azure Mobile App Data Access

Use Node.js or .NET to write data-accessible apps that target Azure Mobile App on the back end with this new plugin.

The Azure team has released a plugin in which developers can use Node.js or ASP.NET to write apps that provide for secure data accessiblity to Azure Mobile Apps. The Apache Cordova Plugin for Azure App Service Mobile Apps is currently in beta preview.

Adrian Hall, a senior program manager with the Azure App Service Mobile Apps team, provides a quick how-to on using the plugin with a new project here. In that blog, Hall notes that the beta release is somewhat crippled. "We have deliberately optimized this release for Apache Cordova apps running in the emulator or on a device for iOS and Android applications," writes Hall. "We understand the authentication flows do not work within Ripple (the standard simulator used when running an Apache Cordova application within Visual Studio)."

Related to the issue of authentication flow, Hall said that a release of an associated JavaScript library that can be used with mobile Web apps won't happen with this release until the flow issue is resolved.

Hall said that this release also won't allow Apache Cordova apps to run within AngularJS frameworks, and doesn't support Offline Sync.

On a related note, the Visual Studio team released the Visual Studio Tools for Apache Cordova Update 5 last week. You can read about that here.
