Build-Up to Microsoft Build, Part 2

Microsoft's mega-event for developers at the end of March won't have the splash of a Visual Studio release, but there are other important technologies that should win your attention. So, how do you know what to focus on? These videos.

Microsoft Build at the end of this month looks to be shaping up to be a much more important event than it seems. Even though it won't have the splash of a new Visual Studio release, the recent RTM of SharePoint 2016 and the work the developer groups are doing to make cross-platform development "a thing" means there's lots of new information that will be unveiled at the sessions in San Francisco that won't be available immediately on the Web sites you frequent for such information.

So, where's a good source of preliminary information that will help you get ready for Build? Microsoft Virtual Academy. Yep, it's in sessions that are taking place as I write this and will be streaming for the next two days on the MVA site.

The sessions feature a number of Microsoft technology evangelists taking on Universal Windows Platform and IoT development, as well as some of the usual suspects (Web and . There's a strong indication from the sessions that machine learning, DevOps, and cross-platform development will be heavily covered topics during the conference.

Even if you aren't attending, there's gobs of information in the video preview. And don't worry if you missed any or all of it -- you can view them on demand on YouTube, so you really haven't missed a thing.
