New Extension Supports PHP Development in Visual Studio 2017

A new extension in the Visual Studio Tools Marketplace provides PHP support for coders working in Visual Studio 2017.

Offered up by Prague-based Devsense, the new "PHP Tools for Visual Studio" marketplace tool promises to "turn Visual Studio into a powerful PHP development environment."

It now comes in a VS 2017 download, along with the previous 2010-2015 versions. Available for a free trial, pricing details weren't disclosed on the marketplace entry but the product's Web site says personal licenses cost $79 while commercial licenses are $149.

It supports PHP versions 7.1, 7.0, 5.6, 5.5 and 5.4, provides IntelliSense, code completion, a function parameter assistant and other functionality, such as visual debugging and an integrated PHP manual.

Documentation can provide more details about its functionality.

Updated only this week, the marketplace description says: "PHP Tools for Visual Studio transparently integrate into Microsoft Visual Studio, and extend it with the support for PHP language. The extension is focused on developer productivity respecting conventions. It understands your code, provides smart code completion, quick navigation, syntax error checking, integrated PHP manual, project system, debugging support and more."

It's been installed 2,259 times as of this writing, with just two perfect 5.0 review ratings.
