Xamarin Offers New Mobile Professional Certification

Microsoft's Xamarin unit announced a new certification program for mobile professionals, offering a badge below the level of its existing cert.

"Today, we're pleased to introduce a new certification level at Xamarin University, the Xamarin Certified Mobile Professional," the company's Mark Smith said in a blog post yesterday. "This badge will be our initial certification level for developers to demonstrate fundamental competency in Xamarin mobile development."

Those who earn the new badge can take some more coursework to go on to earn the existing, higher-level Xamarin Certified Mobile Developer certification, which requires taking 20 selected courses with Xamarin live instructors and passing an exam to demonstrate expertise in cross-platform mobile development using Xamarin.

The new Mobile Professional tier is also being offered to trial users of Xamarin University for free, Smith said. Developers completing coursework can convert their trial subscriptions into regular subscriptions in order to take the Xamarin Professional Certification Exam and earn the new initial certification.

Smith also announced a revamped Self-Guided Learning portal and the addition of six new courses on topics such as Azure, UWP, and preparing to publish an app, bringing the total number of free Self-Guided Learning courses to 18.

More information is available in a certification FAQ.
