Visual Studio Team Shutters UserVoice Forum, Moves to One-Stop-Shop Developer Community

Last October the Visual Studio Engineering Team announced it was moving off the UserVoice site previously used to collect developer feedback about the IDE in favor of a new "Suggest a Feature" mechanism on the Developer Community site.

The third-party UserVoice service was used for years to collect feature suggestions for the IDE, while bug reports were collected from within the IDE itself and managed at the Developer Community site.

Now, all of that functionality has been moved to Developer Community, which features tabs for Visual Studio, Visual Studio for Mac, .NET, C++, Azure DevOps and Azure DevOps Server (TFS), with functionality to report a problem or suggest a feature.

"Thank you for making the move and continuing to help us improve the functionality in Visual Studio!" said Sean Iyer, senior program manager, Visual Studio Feedback, in a June 4 blog post. "Now that feature suggestions are fully up and running on Developer Community, we have taken the final step of the move by turning off the UserVoice forum. If you have an idea or a request for a feature, you can now use the Suggest a Feature in Developer Community site or Visual Studio ... and make your suggestions."

The Developer Community site at the time of this writing shows 70,686 problems and 3,703 feature suggestions.

The top feature suggestion according to the number of votes (570), is for vertical tabs, an issue that has drawn 112 comments. It states: "Document tabs are shown vertically, allowing you to fit more tabs than are normally visible when shown horizontally." It is "under review."
