Syncfusion Update Improves Cross-Platform Development with .NET MAUI, Blazor

Third-party dev toolmaker Syncfusion updated its flagship .NET-based offering with new functionality for cross-platform development.

Leading that effort are nine new controls for Microsoft's .NET MAUI in Syncfusion's new Essential Studio 2023 Volume 3 release. Microsoft describes its .NET Multi-platform App UI offering as the evolution of the old Xamarin.Forms, as it introduces support for creating desktop apps in addition to Xamarin's traditional iOS and Android mobile targets.

The .NET MAUI controls, ranging from different types of buttons to several pickers and more, join other controls that have been deemed production ready: Accordion, Chips, Expander, Numeric Entry and PDF Viewer.

In a news release, Syncfusion said the new update focuses on cross-platform development, which can also be done with Microsoft's Blazor offering in the ASP.NET Core web-dev space.

"Our .NET MAUI updates continue to meet developers' demands for the best controls with which to build cross-platform mobile and desktop apps," said Syncfusion CEO Daniel Jebaraj. "Volume 3 delivers more responsive, interactive UI components that exemplify the high performance and extensibility MAUI is built on. This release also adds major updates to every platform, with a special focus on the Blazor platform."

The company is one of several third-party tooling vendors that Microsoft mentions in its documentation for Blazor, used to build web projects with C# instead of JavaScript. The others are Telerik, DevExpress, Radzen, Infragistics, GrapeCity and jQWidgets.

In addition to the PDF Viewer being updated to production ready status in Blazor, the company's "what's new" guidance lists two other Blazor items:

  • Infinite scrolling and a GraphQL adapter for DataGrid.
  • Full-screen view for calendar components on mobile devices.

and three ASP.NET Core items:

  • Standalone mode for PDF Viewer.
  • Support to compare two DOCX documents and highlight the changes as tracked changes.
  • Backstage view and group button for Ribbon.

Those items and many more are fleshed out in a blog post that covers other .NET-based tooling for Xamarin, WPF and more Microsoft dev constructs, along with JavaScript and the Flutter dev platform from Google.
