Microsoft Devs List Their 'Must See' Build 2024 Sessions

With Microsoft Build 2024 kicking off next week, Microsoft developers have been sharing sessions they're most excited to see.

As we noted earlier, AI-powered Copilot coding assistants will be front and center at the developer conference, which starts on Tuesday, May 21.

Thus it's no surprise AI is the focus of one "must see" session listed today by Microsoft's Jim Harrer, titled "Next Generation AI for Developers with the Microsoft Cloud."

Its description reads: "Join Scott Guthrie and leaders across Microsoft on Wednesday, May 22, from 8:30 AM to 10:00 AM PDT. Learn how to build secure and responsible AI solutions with the foundation of the Microsoft Cloud. Featuring a fireside chat with John Lambert and Julia Liuson to learn what you can do to create secure solutions in today's threat landscape."

Harrer's two other "must see" sessions include:

  • Microsoft Build Opening Keynote: "Join Satya Nadella, Rajesh Jha, and Kevin Scott on Tuesday, May 21, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM PDT. Learn how this era of AI will unlock new opportunities, transform how developers work, and drive business productivity across industries."

  • Maximize Joy, Minimize Toil with Great Developer Experiences: "Join Amanda Silver and friends on Tuesday, May 21, from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM PDT. At Microsoft, enhancing the developer experience is central to our mission. In this session, delve into the latest advancements in developer tools and learn about our collaborative efforts across the technology spectrum. Discover how these innovations are shaping the development of modern, intelligent apps."

His top picks for Visual Studio-focused sessions include another AI-related offering focusing on the ubiquitous Copilot "AI pair programmer": "What's New in GitHub Copilot and Visual Studio."

"Explore enhancements in AI-assisted coding with Damian Brady and Filisha Shah on Wednesday, May 22, from 6:00 PM to 6:45 PM PDT," its description reads. "GitHub Copilot is your AI coding assistant, and when paired with Visual Studio, so much more! We'll take you through tips and tricks, special integrations, and other recent enhancements to make sure you're getting the most out of GitHub Copilot, including things that you can only do with Visual Studio."

Other Visual Studio-related sessions include:

Read Harrer's post for sessions that include the always-entertaining Scott Hanselman, along with a list of in-person-only demos that won't be available for on-demand viewing, as most sessions will be.

Identity
Identity, meanwhile, is the focus of today's post by Microsoft's James Casey.

A breakout session on that topic is titled Secure your Intelligent Applications with Microsoft Entra, featuring Matt Gotteiner, Pamela Fox and Den Delimarsky. That session, online and in-person, promises that attendees will learn the essentials of how to automatically set up authentication for intelligent apps and discover how to add access controls to apps and data.

Furthermore, "We will guide you through registering your AI applications using the Microsoft Graph API or the new Microsoft Graph Bicep resources which enable repeatable deployment of Microsoft Entra ID resources. We'll share industry-leading practices for token validation and refresh with the Microsoft Authentication Library (MSAL)."

Casey himself will helm the in-person-only session, Create pixel perfect authentication experiences for native mobile apps.

Other identity-related demo sessions (in-person only) highlighted by Casey include:
