OpenSpan Monday announced the availability of the OpenSpan Platform 3.1, an application integration environment that lets software professionals to tie together virtually any application running on Windows.

OpenSpan uses a unique injection technology that enables it to determine APIs within an application that can be hooked to other applications, tying together data and workflows that would never otherwise be able to integrate. According to the company, building a composite application is as simple as connecting one API to another. OpenSpan provides a comprehensive visual environment for examining applications, identifying APIs and connecting them together.

Existing applications can actually be thought of as services, in that they can provide processing and data as input to other applications that execute sequentially to solve larger and more complex problems. This approach can be used to create workflows between multiple applications.

Version 3.1 incorporates the ability to discover APIs within Java applications and UI controls, and also work with Vista controls. It also incorporates a larger collection of predefined APIs, including those within the Siebel CRM application.
