OutSystems App-Dev Platform Enters U.S. Market
OutSystems Inc. offers platform for developing Web service-based apps.
Portugal-based OutSystems Inc. is going stateside with its platform for deploying Web
services-based enterprise apps in either native .NET or Java.
The OutSystems Platform uses a visual language framed by an XML schema and employs a familiar methodology in which "all the concepts are based on mainstream modeling techniques," according to Carlos Alves, the firm's vice president of engineering. The platform works with other IDEs such as Visual Studio and Eclipse to generate adapters for existing components.
OutSystem's main focus is on quick and customizable development, according to Alves. "We focus a lot on being able to rapidly assemble applications [and] on being able to change the things [developers] model easily. The developers and IT departments that use our solutions become more focused on business issues," he adds.
Developers create OutSystems-based apps with the Service Studio toolset. Program management and governance occur through the Service Center component, and integration tasks are handled within Integration Studio.
A Butler Group report on OutSystems concluded that the product, now in version 4.1, is best suited for developing mobile, Web-based or e-mail applications.
OutSystems is offering a free trial version of the platform. It's not feature-limited but only five developers can use it at one time. OutSystems Express Edition can be downloaded at the
company's Web site.
