Agile Platform 5.1 Aimed at Amazon Cloud

OutSystems this week released version 5.1 of its Agile Platform, featuring "1 Click" provisioning designed to help developers quickly get projects up and running on Amazon's EC2 cloud computing service.

The company said the release, tweaked specifically for cloud-based deployment, tackles the problem of complicated and slow setup of development environments, such as provisioning servers with specific hardware and software configurations.

"OutSystems recognized this challenge, and the new Agile Platform 5.1 includes functionality to accelerate the whole provisioning process, to simplify it and reduce the overall IT operational costs -- to ensure that development projects can start as soon as possible," the company said in a news release.

Part of the streamlined provisioning process involves Amazon's pay-as-you-go DevPay program in which companies are billed for the number of hours they use the EC2 (Elastic Cloud Compute) development environment.

Pricing ranges from $2.99 per hour for the enterprise edition to 12 cents per hour for the community edition.

Agile Platform 5.1 also features rapid-development technology to build Web sites, called IntelliWarp, that automatically takes data stored in Excel files and puts it in relational data models ready to support drag-and-drop development of Web applications.

Other enhancements in the new version include embedded tutorials, data segregation options, automated documentation, enhanced server-side caching and URLs optimized for search engines.

The company said it doesn't lock developers into proprietary frameworks, so apps can be developed in .NET or Java.
