Unity 5.2 Uses Visual Studio 2015 as Default IDE

The game development platform has native integration with Visual Studio 2015 Community Edition, which allows option to install it as the default IDE.

The Unity gaming development platform now integrates Visual Studio 2015 Community Edition and Visual Studio Tools for Unity natively. The integration built into Unity 5.2 is just another step to a closer relationship that was formed by Unity and Microsoft back in April.

Microsoft's S. Somasegar announced the Unity/Microsoft partnership back in April, (at that time, Somasegar also noted its partnership with game developers Epic Games, developers of the Unreal Engine, and and Cocos2D developer Chukong Technologies). Prior to that, Microsoft had already had been several months into developing Visual Tools for Unity, an add-on that provides Unity rich programming and debugging tools.

Besides the native IDE support, Visual Studio includes templates for creating new projects that will install Unity and VSTU. It streamlines coding for those who just want to jump into projects directly with C#.

As well, Visual Studio Tools for Unity has been updated to version 2.1, which mainly means it adds support for Unity 5.2. By virtue of its VS integration, Unity 5.2 can also be used to develop games that support Windows 10 and Universal Windows Platform. That support extends Unity game development to Xbox, Windows Phone, and Windows 10 PCs.
