Low-Code Windows Template Studio Gets Visual Basic Support

Windows Template Studio, Microsoft's open source, wizard-driven Visual Studio 2017 extension for coding Universal Windows Platform (UWP) applications, is out in version 1.7 with new support for Visual Basic and the Prism framework.

In addition to the low-code, wizard approach, Windows Template Studio 1.7 infuses links to documentation, Stack Overflow and technical blogs throughout its generated code to give developers even more of a helping hand in creating UWP apps.

The venerable Visual Basic programming language has maintained a vociferous following throughout its 27-year history, with many developers clamoring for their beloved Visual Basic 6.0 to be continued and improved instead of the more modern Visual Basic .NET that replaced it.

Along with Visual Basic support, v1.7 also works with the Prism framework, for creating loosely coupled, maintainable, and testable XAML applications in Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF), Windows 10 UWP and Xamarin.Forms.

The new edition -- the team follows a monthly release cadence -- also incorporate some other minor updates, improvements and bug fixes.

Continued refinement with Fluent design in the templates
Work for supporting multiple projects in a single solution
