What's New in Windows Template Studio 2.5
Microsoft has shipped Windows Template Studio 2.5, adding new functionality and fixing bugs in the wizard-driven tool for quickly creating Universal Windows Platform (UWP) apps.
Provided as a free, open source extension in the Visual Studio Marketplace, Windows Template Studio takes the low-code approach to the rapid development of barebones UWP apps. It generates code that follows best practices and proven patterns while incorporating the latest Windows 10 features, along with interspersed links to documentation, Stack Overflow and blogs for useful insights.
That code is generated after a developer makes a few project choices, including project type (blank, navigation and so on), selection of framework (code behind, MVVM Basic or MVVM Light), app pages (with Master/Detail, Settings and Web view already provided) and app features (such as Suspend/Resume, BackGround Work and User Interaction).
Recently added and brand-new functionality introduced in v2.5 includes:
- Improved start-up time splitting templates by platform/language
- Improved guidance on Suspend and Resume feature
- Support for Visual Studio 2019
- Bug fixes
- Navigation View uses WinUI Library
- Pages updated with current Fluent guidance
- Multiple Ink pages
- Data Grid from Windows Community Toolkit page
